Fidgety Students... a good thing!

Fidgeting in the Classroom

A news article on Yahoo today talked about fidgeting in the classroom and how letting students move is a good thing... finally someone that agrees with me!

Getting anyone to sit still for a long period of time is really difficult, even more so if the person is a child. People naturally like to move around, and it is not a sign that we are not necessarily not paying attention and are restless.

The key to teaching is always: make things interesting, and the students will want to pay attention- even if their legs are moving around. Harness their energy and make something out of it- use the energy for something instead of trying to bottle it up... it will just explode all over the place later.
